A Time To Die

“There were dahlias in the garden.

We put them on the tables on their wedding day.”

“That’s the house they were married in, our parents house.”

Dave’s Grandfather, D.C. Shain, died last monday.

But the soul never really dies. When I found out that grandpa died, my first thought was, “It’s over. What is he thinking now?”

Life is short. Only God knows how many days we have left on the earth. There is one thing we do know,

we have one day less than we had yesterday.

Matthew 16:26

“What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?”

Four Marines came to give him one last salute. That would’ve meant the world to Dee.

I’m not sure he had ever stopped to ponder in thanks to the God who miraculously saved his life. Dee served as a Marine in the Pacific Ocean islands fighting in World War II. So many of the men he served with never came back. But God spared his life, & gave him a beautiful wife, 3 children, grandchildren, & great-grandchildren. If those bullets that went through Dee’s neck in the war would have killed him 65 years ago, I wouldn’t be married to the wonderful David C. Shain. I wouldn’t have a wonderful Father in Law, Gary Shain. And those were the last words I told Grandpa. I cried as I truly felt like God was telling me that I must tell him the Gospel. And so the Gospel was the last encounter we had.

And now I ponder even more deeply on the destiny of every man…

Acts 17:31
“For He has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising Him from the dead.”

Romans 2:16

“This will take place on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.”

II Timothy 4:1
“In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom…”

1 Peter 4:5
“But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.”

Ecclesiastes 7:2

“It’s better to go to a funeral than to attend a feast; funerals remind us that we all must die.”

People spend more time planning their vacations than their ETERNITY…

What will they say at Your Funeral?

Will you be ready?

and What will God say about You?
